The Thai administration has expressed its readiness to strengthen Thai-Indian relations, with confidence that this year’s planned visit to India will elevate bilateral ties to a strategic partnership.
Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin had a telephone conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, congratulating him on his re-election for a third consecutive term. Srettha praised Modi’s popular governance and reaffirmed Thailand’s commitment to bolstering bilateral relations.
Prime Minister Modi, in their first conversation months ago, also congratulated Srettha on his new position. Both leaders expressed confidence in maintaining strong ties between the two nations.
Prime Minister Srettha announced plans for an official visit to India this year to discuss enhancing cooperation. This includes regional collaboration and initiatives within the framework of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC), aiming to elevate the strategic partnership between Thailand and India.
In response, Prime Minister Modi welcomed Srettha’s visit at a mutually convenient time and expressed his willingness to attend the BIMSTEC meeting in Thailand in September, believing it will further develop bilateral cooperation and economic relations.
BIMSTEC is an international organization of seven South Asian and Southeast Asian nations, housing 1.73 billion people and having a combined gross domestic product of 5.2 trillion US Dollars. (NNT)
