BANGKOK, 1 July 2011 – Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has indicated that he has not turned the Thai-Cambodian border from a trade market into a battle field amid the tense relations between the two countries.

Prime Minister Abhisit, also the Democrat Party leader, brushed off the accusation of the Pheu Thai Party that the Thai-Cambodian trade has been damaged by the border tension and argued that the border trade has so far been positive although there are some hiccups at certain points.

The prime minister believed that all Thai people know well that the Thai-Cambodian spat is originated from the previous government led by the People Power Party or the Pheu Thai Party at present. He noted that Phnom Penh is now monitoring the Thai politics, especially the election closely.

The Democrat leader stressed that Thai people must choose in the upcoming election if they want the Pheu Thai Party which is friendly to Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen at the expense of the border territory or the Democrat Party which will do its best to protect the Thai sovereignty.

Prime Minister Abhisit continued that the Thai military have never trespassed on other territories first but will be always alert to retaliate any attacks. He also ensured that the military have been monitoring the Thai-Cambodian border situation closely.

The Democrat leader also lashed out at the Pheu Thai Party for trying to incite never-ending conflicts. He then pleaded all sides to move towards the upcoming election as he believed that there are no conditions leading to another coup d’état in Thailand.
