BANGKOK, 6 Jan 2014 The Prime Minister has pointed out that the imposition of an emergency decree will be the last resort that will be used against the anti-government protesters.

Prime Minister and Defense Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said an emergency decree would be the government’s last option to control large crowd as she feared that such a move would cause disturbance to the public. She believed the situation would not get out of hand to the point where an emergency decree would be needed.

She however expressed her concern that the planned Bangkok shutdown would destroy foreign investors’ confidence and domestic economy, adding that the situation would exacerbate if the conflicts were not sorted out through a peaceful means.

PM Yingluck also asked the People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) protesters not to seize state offices or cut out power to government buildings on January 13th.

As for security measures, Miss Yingluck said they would be mainly focused on protecting the capital, not to instigate any violence or harm the protesters, as all security agencies had been ordered to exercise restraints when dealing with the mob of demonstrators.
