Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin’s region tour yesterday (May 13) also included a visit to Hua Hin Airport in Prachuap Khiri Khan province to review the facility’s readiness for international flight operations. A delegation of key officials from the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports was also present at the facility.
Hua Hin Airport, managed by the Department of Airports, Ministry of Transport, occupies an area of 492 rai of land. It houses a 7,200-square-meter passenger terminal that accommodates 300 passengers per hour. The apron also features important aviation and weather management facilities, including a flight training center and the Hua Hin Royal Rainmaking Center.
The airport is currently undergoing major upgrades to meet the safety standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). These enhancements include extending the main runway to 2,100 meters in length and 60 meters in width and expanding safety areas around the runway and associated infrastructure, such as tunnels for cars and trains.
Officials have noted that the current upgrades at the airport, which are now progressing to the tendering phase for additional construction, are expected to enhance local tourism and improve travel efficiencies, transforming this regional airfield into a key transportation hub in the southern region.
