Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has conducted an inspection at Roi Et’s Phon Thong Hospital to evaluate the hospital’s use of medical equipment and its capacity to serve the local community.
Phon Thong Hospital, originally designed for 150 beds, currently operates with 213 beds due to increasing demand. The facility employs 514 medical and public health personnel and handles a significant patient load. The hospital averages 1,000 outpatient visits daily, with its inpatient services accommodating around 106 patients per day. The intensive care unit and the labor room also see an average of 8 and 7 patients per day, respectively.
During an onsite meeting, the premier was informed of the hospital’s current challenges in providing care, exacerbated by high patient inflow from Phon Thong district and surrounding areas, including Nong Phok, Pho Chai, and Moei Wadi. Despite its expanded services, the hospital struggles with inadequate medical equipment, specialized staff, and facility infrastructure, which impacts its ability to deliver optimal health services.
Highlighting the persistent challenges in rural public health services, Srettha stressed the urgent need for improved healthcare facilities and more resources to address increasing demands and raise patient care standards in Roi Et province and the entire northeastern region. (NNT)
