BANGKOK, 29 March 2012 – The prime minister has urged all parties engaged in the country’s political conflicts to trust in the parliamentary system as a passage towards national reconciliation.
Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has commented that although there remain opponents and proponents of the proposal by the House Committee on national reconciliation, she would like to implore both sides of the conflict to respect the opinion of the majority, which is also to respect the ideas proposed by the minority.
PM Yingluck insisted that the parliamentary system will continue to be an important mechanism to allow all parties to help find the best solution to enable Thailand to achieve reconciliation, with each member holding one vote that will combine into a viable resolution to restore peace in the country.
When asked to comment on the opposition party’s concerns over an attempt by the government towards a blanket amnesty, the prime minister stated that a chance for such a law is still “a long shot” in her opinion.
