BANGKOK, 29 September 2014 The Prime Minister has called on residents of Thailand’s southern border area to work with the authority to bring about the sense of security to the conflict-torn region.

Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha said on Sunday that the change of the armed forces leader in charge of the Deep South should not worry residents in the area as all strategies have been planned and the army will collaborate with the Southern Border Provinces Administration Center (SBPAC) to implement all measures.

Concerning the peace talks with the southern insurgents, the Premier said that there must be more clarity in the structure of the meet, which could be multi-lateral — not only bi-lateral, and involves ideas from different groups of people that will be utilised in developing Thailand further.

Gen. Prayut went on to say that since it is less than a year before the ASEAN Community is officially in effect and there will be more labor movement within the Southeast Asian region, Thailand needs to have peace otherwise no development will come about.

He also asked southerners to refrain from collaborating with any suspects responsible for act of violence and to convince them to cease such actions and help with the development of the country instead.
