BANGKOK, 25 June 2015 – The Prime Minister has called for an end to street talks about the suggested legalization of casino business in Thailand.

Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha said on Wednesday that the government has not made any decision related to the casino legalization proposal and the public should not spend time talking about this issue anymore.

Gen. Prayut said that, instead, everyone should now leave the idea to the researchers to study about the pros and cons of the legalization of gambling.

When asked about the suggestion by National Police Chief Pol. Gen. Somyot Poompanmoung that the casino legalization will help curb the problem of illegal gambling dens and the troubles with good and bad law enforcers, the PM said that he already informed the police chief that Thais will not accept such an idea although people from the whole country should still listen to all sides.

He added that more time is needed before a study on this issue could draw any conclusion, while denying claims that an army general is behind a move to push for the legalization of casino.
