Bangkok, 5th August 2019 (NNT) – The Prime Minister and Defense Minister, Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, has urged different sides to refrain from commenting on his alleged failure to recite the full text of an oath during the swearing-in ceremony, while insisting that his oath-taking statement was constitutional and in line with the royal command.
Following the opposition’s move to ask the Constitutional Court to rule on the legitimacy of the cabinet following the alleged incomplete oath-taking, Gen. Prayut clarified the issue, saying his oath-taking statement before His Majesty the King was constitutional. He said the statement covered all points, especially the intention to work for the Thai people. He asked different sides to refrain from commenting on the matter and using politics to disrupt the country.
“It’s in line with the constitution. The oath-taking statement before His Majesty the King is in line with the constitution. The charter already explains the process. On the issue of working for the people, I think all issues have been stated. Everything is covered under the constitution, including the issue of working for all Thais. Another important issue is that it complies with the royal command. His Majesty wants us to work for the people of Thailand. The constitution is also for the people of Thailand. I think that this issue should be settled. It should not escalate. Many of them are fellow soldiers. As brothers, I ask you not to use politics to create instability in the country. Good or bad, they can wait for the next general election.
