PM presents annual Kathin robes to monks at Wat That Tong

BANGKOK, 30 October 2013 Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has presided over the annual Kathin ( robe presentation to the monks ) ceremony at Wat That Tong in Bangkok. 

Miss Yingluck Shinawatra, Prime Minister and Defense Minister, yesterday presided over the annual Kathin ceremony at Wat That Tong.

Miss Yingluck paid respect to the image of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. She then picked up the royal Kathin robes and proceeded to the temple hall and presented them to the monks. Along with the Kathin robes, Miss Yingluck and other government officials also gave other offerings to the monks. A total of 5.5 million baht donation was also given to the temple.

At the end of the 3-month Buddhist Lent, monks across the country are allowed to travel and able to receive new robes. This tradition is called Kathin ceremony. Besides new robes, Buddhist literature, cooking utensils, monetary donation, and building materials are also presented to the monks on this occasion.
