Prime Minister and Finance Minister Srettha Thavisin discusses research policies with the President of Thailand Development Research Institute (TDRI), ready to listen to suggestions, both in agreement and disagreement in a constructive manner, emphasizing the benefits to the public.
Mr. Somkiat Tangkitvanich, TDRI’s President led the institute’s executives to meet with the prime minister to discuss research policy issues. Mr. Prommin Lertsuridej, Secretary-General of the Prime Minister, also participated in the discussion.
The President of TDRI expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for working hard and representing Thailand globally. As TDRI conducts policy research, it has knowledge and recommendations that may be beneficial to the government. Therefore, TDRI presents 4 issues to the government: 1. Reforming state regulations, 2. Promoting creative economic development, 3. Thailand should join the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and 4. Europe is imposing carbon import taxes on products from various countries, and Thailand’s legal mechanisms are not ready. Therefore, preparation is needed. TDRI is willing to conduct further studies if the government finds any of these issues beneficial to support government initiatives.
The Prime Minister listened to research proposals from the President of TDRI, stating that personally, he clearly understands that TDRI agrees with some issues and disagrees with others regarding government policies.
In any action taken, he emphasized considering the benefits to the people as a top priority. He welcomed both agreement and constructive disagreement, as it contributes to improvement. He thanked TDRI for the research proposals and assigned relevant agencies to consider the details for possible future actions. (TNA)
