BANGKOK – Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has emphasized that the government’s buying price of rubber must be appropriate and most of the purchased rubber will go to processing plants.
The PM on Wednesday spoke about the government’s assistance measures for rubber farmers. He stressed that a whole-system approach was needed to tackle rubber price drop and financial support was not the only solution to the problem.
Gen.Prayut also suggested that research on the production of processed rubber should be utilized with the objective to increase domestic consumption of rubber.
Rubber plantations should be limited and controlled due to oversupply at present, the PM added. He further suggested that rubber farmers should grow other crops when rubber price was low.
