BANGKOK, 25 Oct 2013 Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has indicated the government is prepared to support Thai athletes in their drive to gain prominence in the world stage, in tandem with promoting Thai businesses and products related to sports.

Ms. Yingluck on Thursday launched the Thailand International Sport Expo 2013 at Impact convention center, Mueang Thong Thani. At the event, Ms. Yingluck asserted the expo was aimed at promoting sales and business activities related to sports, and this activity would be synergistic with the government policy to broaden Thai commercial activity in the ASEAN region.

The government has a policy of promoting excellence in sports and sports as profession. To achieve this aim, the system of developing athletes and the personnel in the system must be improved. Sports facilities need to be improved, and doing so will also benefit the country’s economic development and the tourism scene, according to the Premier.
