BANGKOK, 15 August 2011 – Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra officially started working at Government House on Monday morning after paying respect to the statue of Lord Brahma and the spirit house at Government House at 9.19 hrs.
She said she was not superstitious about the time to assume office but did so to boost her own morale. She said it was a great honour for her to work as the prime minister and to be elected with a clear mandate.
Regarding tomorrow’s cabinet meeting, the prime minister responded that the policy statement draft will be discussed and will be forwarded to House Speaker Somsak Kiatsuranont for further procedure.
As for solutions to the persisting flood, Ms Yingluck elaborated that rehabilitation and relief missions must be carried out in the short-term while irrigation systems in the country must be integrated for the highest efficiency in solving the problem in the long run.
The prime minister also admitted that a discussion is going on between her and Pheu Thai MP Jatuporn Prompan about financial rehabilitation for people killed in the military crackdown on the United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship protesters last year, and the initial outlay of assistance for each victim could be 10 million baht.
Ms Yingluck noted that the mentioned amount is just a guideline and remains inconclusive because it must be considered again later on.
