BANGKOK, 8 May 2015 – The Prime Minister has emphasized that the government will solve the issue of Rohingya refugees, while appointing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to help coordinate with Malaysia and Myanmar in eradicating the issue.
Regarding the issue of the Rohingya refugees, the Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has said that the discussion between Thailand, Malaysia and Myanmar is set to commence this month. The 3 countries will discuss to find ways to resolve this issue,. Initially, the government has announced that the issue will be resolved within 10 days.
He has said that the Rohingya refugee issue requires an integrated effort from all related agencies. Procedures towards solving this long term problem will be carried out strictly to all related persons without bias.
The Prime Minister has said that the government’s disclosure of this information is due to the earnest effort from the officials and made possible through the cooperation from the public who helped in informing officials to traces and relevant information.
He has also said regarding the opening of the Rohingya refugee shelter, that Thailand currently has 100,000 refugee residing in shelters. Part of the refugees are persons affected from the border unrest, while the rest are Rohingya people.
