PM to make an official visit to Japan on 6-9 March

BANGKOK, 29 February 2012  – The prime minister is set to make an official visit to Japan at the beginning of March, with plans to boost Japanese investors’ confidence in Thailand. 

Deputy government spokesman Chalitrat Chantarubeksa said on Tuesday that the weekly Cabinet meeting has acknowledged Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra’s planned visit to Japan, which is scheduled for March 6th-9th, to promote bilateral relations and boost investors’ confidence in Thailand.

The upcoming trip is also aiming to strengthen closer cooperation in economics, social affairs, politics, environment and disaster management between the two countries.

Mr. Chalitrat added that PM Yingluck plans to deliver a message of gratitude to the Japanese government for its assistance given to Thailand during last year’s severe flood crisis.

Moreover, the Prime Minister hopes to explain about the Thai government’s assistance extended to Japanese companies in Thailand following the worst flood crisis it has seen in decades.

The deputy government spokesman went on to say that the Prime Minister will take an opportunity to thank Japan for its support to the ASEAN connectivity initiative while emphasizing the significance of the World Economic Forum on East Asia, which Bangkok will host during May 30th and June 1st.
