Bangkok – Government Spokesperson Naruemon Pinyosinwat said today that Prime Minister/Defense Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha will visit the northeastern region and follow up on the anti-drought measures being taken and general lack of water in many places. The premier will chair a meeting with the 20 northeastern provincial governors on integrated water management, especially water that’s essential for the people’s consumption.
The PM is scheduled to visit Surin and Buri Ram on August 19. Gen Prayut will visit Huay Saneng water reservoir of the Royal Irrigation Department in Surin, and get a briefing on their water management and a plan to distribute trucks of water for use by local villagers. He will chair a meeting with the 20 provincial governors on the no-water situation, at Surin Provincial Hall.
Gen Prayut will also visit Huay Chora Khe Mark reservoir of the Royal Irrigation Department in Buri Ram and get a briefing on the water situation and the management of water for consumption.
The PM has been concerned for some time over the drought issue which is currently affecting the people’s daily lives and agricultural occupations. The relevant deputy prime minister and other cabinet ministers will accompany him to the northeastern region on Monday.
