BANGKOK, 4 August 2015 – The Prime Minister has urged the general public to wear Thai attire to celebrate the auspicious occasion of Her Majesty the Queen’s birthday, and reminded the public to love their mother and be good children.
Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha spoke with artists who had received the ‘gratefulness to mother’ awards for 2015, prior to the Cabinet’s meeting at Government House, to promote the sale of jasmine flowers on the occasion of Mother’s Day 2015.
On this occasion, the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives also brought in mulberry farmers, responsible for the production of silk from Maha Sarakham Province, to meet the Prime Minster. The farmers were able to express their gratitude to him, for being a continuous supporter and the model for wearing Thai Silk attire.
The farmers also gave the Mud Mi Soi Dok Mak silk cloth to the Prime Minister, as part of a campaign to encourage the public to buy Thai Silk for their mothers during the month of August.
The PM has suggested that, in addition to the preservation of the Thai weaving identity, silk producers and manufacturers should make silk products in a range of prices which differ according to quality in order to create affordable Thai Silk products for the public.
He then invited all Thai nationals to wear clothes made from Thai Silk, as a tribute to Her Majesty the Queen on the auspicious occasion of her birthday on 12 August 2015.
He also reminded the farmers to live their lives with sufficiency, in keeping with the royal guidelines from His Majesty the King, and called on the public to show their love for their mothers throughout the month of Mother’s Day.
The Minister of Culture also brought along youths to meet the Prime Minister, to promote the ‘Wear Thai Attire for the Queen’ campaign, in keep with Her Majesty’s initiative to conserve the art and utilization of Thai textiles.
