BANGKOK, 26 Oct 2013 The Prime Minister has urged relevant agencies to manage water according to His Majesty the King’s Royal Initiative.

Ms. Yingluck Shinawatra, the Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, today paid respect to the City Pillar Shrine of Khon Kaen Province before proceeding to inspect unused land belonging to the State Railway of Thailand to consider its suitability for conversion into residential projects for congested communities and people affected by the government’s planned high-speed railway link.

The Prime Minister also visited the Tha Wang Mon Biodiversity Conservation Center, Khon Kaen Province, to listen to water management plan from Khon Kaen Governor Mr. Somsak Suwansucharit. According to the governor’s report, the province has been affected by flash floods and the overflowing of the Chi River since September 11. The construction of water barriers has helped alleviate the problems, but at least 29,000 homes remain affected.

The Prime Minister urged local authorities to solve water management problems in line with His Majesty the King’s Royal Initiative. She urged officials to survey flood damage. The Prime Minister also distributed aid packages to flood victims before returning to Bangkok.
