YALA, April 7 — Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra visits the South to boost morale of local officials and pay respect at funeral services for Yala officials killed in Friday’s bombing, as three separate attacks occurred in Narathiwat today.
Upon her arrival at Yala Hospital, the premier was briefed about the overall unrest situation by Yala governor Detrath Simsiri and met with governors of five southern border provinces— Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat, Songkhla and Satun.
Ms Yingluck then made a visit to driver Satopa Jaeloh, who was injured in the Friday’s bomb attack. He remains in critical condition and under treatment in an intensive care unit.
She then visited Corporal Chatree Promrat, who was wounded in a roadside bomb blast in Yala’s Krong Pinang district on April 3.
The premier gave morale and financial supports to the victims’ families. She explained that the encouragement and support were important so she made a visit today.
Regarding security for senior officials, Ms Yingluck said that the security measures must be adjusted and tightened for state officials and local residents, particularly in high-risk zones.
Meanwhile, the prime minister affirmed that the series of ongoing insurgency attacks will not affect peace talks with the Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN) insurgent group. She explained that daily unrest must be separate from peace talks, adding that all relevant parties mutually agreed that the talks were a means to help bring peace back to the southern region
After finishing her duties in Yala, she then travelled to Nakhon Si Thammarat to pay respects at funeral services for Yala deputy governor Isara Thongthawat and prevention and security provincial chief Chavalit Chaireuk who were slain in a fatal explosion on Friday.
