PM vows to end violence against women, children

BANGKOK, Nov 17 – Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra today vowed to stop violence and abuse towards women and children.

The premier presided over the opening ceremony of a project campaigning to stop violence at Thupatemee Stadium.

November every year is designated the month to stop abuse to children and women.

The prime minister said cooperation on ending violence must come from all parties and the matter is Thai society’s awareness and responsibility. The government has been planning and campaigning to assist victims of violence of all kinds, regardless of sex, age and nationality.

Meanwhile, Social Development and Human Security Minister Paveena Hongsakul said that violence against women and children in the country was increasing and that it was the prime minister’s urgent policy to eradicate all kinds of abuse to these victims and to make it a national agenda. It was the country’s strategy to build opportunities and social equality for all.

Campaigns and centres to receive complaints from abuse have been set up nationwide to solve the problems of violence occurring in families, she noted.
