Bangkok – Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has said he wants to cultivate a culture of reconciliation between the ruling party and the opposition as a basis for a peaceful society.
In his national televised speech on Sunday, Gen Prayut pointed out that the members of the public are familiar with a parliamentary system where the ruling party administers the nation and the opposition party keeps the government in check, adding that the existence of both sides is solely to protect the best interests of the public.
The prime minister said he wished to rename the opposition party the “opposing and supportive party” so as to change the negative vibe in parliament.
Under the proposed term, the opposing and supportive side will hold the ruling party accountable to the public while at the same time contributing to development projects and reform related undertakings.
This way, he said, the country will be able to cultivate a culture of reconciliation, unity, and trust, and the upper and lower houses will be able to settle differences rationally and peacefully.
