NEW YORK CITY, 27 September 2012 – The Prime Minister has assured the international community about the Thai government’s emphasis on the promotion of women’s and children’s health.

On the sidelines of the annual UN General Assembly, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, on Tuesday, attended a dinner reception hosted by the Every Woman, Every Child (EWEC) campaign, at the Museum of Modern Art.

The project, which was initiated by the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon, is intended to lower the fatality rate of women and children to 16 million within 2015 through the collaboration from everyone in the society.

At the dinner, PM Yingluck was invited to be the first to give a speech on the development of women and children through the promotion of health, economic and social development.

In her speech, the Thai PM commended the start of the Every Woman, Every Child initiative while expressing her belief that the public’s full access to health care, disregard of gender and race is a very important fundamental of human rights and security.

The Premier added that the Thai government has continued to make all healthcare services, including the emergency service, really available for Thais across the country unconditionally.

Moreover, the government has been promoting breast-feeding and discouraging the promotion of breast-milk substitutes at all state hospitals, in order to help enhance the development of children of all ages.

Lastly, PM Yingluck said that, as a mother, she cannot see anything more important than the health protection for women and children and is, thus, willing to commit to cooperation with the Every Woman, Every Child (EWEC) campaign to provide a chance for those people to have a healthy and perfect life.
