PM Yingluck at 180th Anniversary of Thai-US Relations Gala

BANGKOK, 29 May 2013 The prime minister has joined the gala to celebrate 180 years of Thai-US relations while calling for more US roles in ASEAN. 

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, on Wednesday, delivered an opening speech at the 180th Anniversary of Thai-US Relations Gala at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stating Thailand is the America’s oldest ally in Asia and the two countries’ ties have only been stronger as years passed.

PM Yingluck stated that the relations between Thailand and US have expanded to many areas, from security to economics.

The Premier said USA is Thailand’s third-largest trading partner and investor while more than 800,000 American tourists visit the country each year.

The PM also expressed Thailand’s readiness to support the US’s bigger role in ASEAN and American investors’ participation in science and technology, education and many other fields, especially the Thai government’s mega transportation network development project.

Lastly, Ms. Yingluck hopes the Thai-US partnership will be further strengthened in the near future.
