BANGKOK, 14 August 2015 – The Royal Thai Police Board has selected Pol Gen Jakthip Chaijinda as the 11th Police Commissioner-General of Thailand.
In his capacity as the vice chairman of the Police Board, Deputy Prime Minister for Security Affairs Gen Prawit Wongsuwan presided over the Board’s meeting to find the replacement for National Police Chief Pol Gen Somyot Poompanmuang, who is set to retire at the end of September this year.
The names of five deputy police chiefs were proposed during the meeting, including Pol Gen Ek Angsananont, Pol Gen Pongsapat Pongcharoen, Pol Gen Wuthi Liptapanlop, Pol Gen Chalermkiat Sriworakhan, and Pol Gen Jakthip Chaijinda. However, Pol Gen Ek and Pol Gen Jakthip were considered the two strongest contenders.
In the end, the Board members voted unanimously to appoint Pol Gen Jakthip as the 11th Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police. He is the youngest of the five candidates and is due to retire in 2020. His duty will begin on October 1 after the retirement of Pol Gen Somyot, his predecessor.
