BANGKOK, 4 March 2013 The Commander of the Office of Police Commission (OPC) said former Pheu Thai candidate for the Bangkok governor, Police General Pongsapat Pongjaoren, is able to return to work as police if he wishes so.

OPC Commander Police Lieutenant General Chaiyong Keeratikajorn said Police General Pongsapat, who has just lost in the gubernatorial election, could apply for his return to work as a public servant by submitting his request to the Police Commissioner General. The application would then be processed and sent to the OPC for consideration.

The OPC Commander said he did not expect any obstacle for Pol Gen Pongsapat in this matter. He said Pol Gen Pongsapat only resigned to run for the Bangkok governor and that, under the Cabinet’s rulings, any civil servants quitting their jobs to support democracy are able to return to the official service.
