BANGKOK, Thailand – Officers from the Metropolitan Police’s investigation unit arrested two suspects: Alongkorn, 34, and Chanakarn, 27. They are accused of “theft committed by two or more people using a vehicle to facilitate the crime or escape arrest.” The suspects were arrested in front of a makeshift shelter with no address along the railway on Suththawat Road, Siriraj Subdistrict, Bangkok Noi District, Bangkok.
A check of the CRIMES system by the Royal Thai Police revealed that Alongkorn had another outstanding warrant. The South Bangkok Criminal Court issued the warrant on July 4, 2024, under the jurisdiction of the Bang Rak Police Station for a similar charge of “nighttime theft committed by two or more people”. Chanakarn was arrested based on a warrant issued by the South Bangkok Criminal Court on August 8, 2024, under the jurisdiction of the Yannawa Police Station, also for the charge of theft committed by two or more people using a vehicle.
The investigation uncovered that the pair had been involved in multiple thefts at convenience stores in the jurisdictions of the Yannawa, Bang Rak, and Thung Maha Mek police stations, as well as nearby areas. The Metropolitan Police collaborated with local stations to review CCTV footage, which identified the suspects, later revealed to be husband and wife. This evidence led to the issuance of arrest warrants.
On August 21, the arresting officers spotted two individuals matching the suspects’ descriptions walking near the shelter along the railway. The police identified themselves and presented the arrest warrants. The suspects confessed to committing multiple thefts, stating they had done it so often they lost track of the specific locations. Investigations suggest they committed four thefts between May 13 and June 7, 2024, using the stolen money and goods for personal expenses, such as paying household bills and caring for their child. The suspects were handed over to investigators at Yannawa Police Station to face legal proceedings. (TNA)
