CHIANG MAI, 12 June 2014 – All police stations have been told to closely monitor the various establishments in their areas to prevent the venues facilitating football gambling during the World Cup. Meanwhile, Chiang Mai Zoo is keeping up with the trend by encouraging fish in its aquarium to ‘play’ football.
National police deputy spokesperson Anucha Lekbamrung said the order to regulate establishments against being used to facilitate betting came from Acting Royal Thai Police Commissioner, Police General Watcharaphon Prasanratchakit, who also asked that officials from the police stations visit educational institutions to deter youths from gambling.
Meanwhile, Chiang Mai Zoo Aquarium has put on display a special fish tank that shows fish ‘playing’ football. Two teams of surgeon fish and pennant coral fish try to snatch the ‘football’, which is fish food shaped into a ball, from one another. Visitors to the aquarium can also watch an underwater football-bouncing show performed by divers.
