BANGKOK, 20 July 2015 – The Deputy Police Commissioner General said he has been following efforts to prosecute illegal fishing activities in Rayong province and has bolstered the capacity to monitor inbound and outbound vessels in the area.

Pol Gen Aek Angsananont visited Rayong province’s center for monitoring sea traffic in the area and was briefed on the local labor conditions.

A report revealed major issues in the area, including incorrect fishing licenses and ships run by foreign workers. The law requires that only Thai nationals captain the crew. However, the report did reveal increased cooperation from fishermen in the area.

Pol Gen Aek ordered local law enforcement officers to organize special operations and expedite prosecution and immigration procedures.
