BANGKOK, Thailand – The Acting Metropolitan Police Commissioner, Pol Lt Gen Siam Boonsom, has called for reforms following a controversial incident involving traffic police officers accused of assaulting the son of a former police officer. The case, which has drawn public criticism, was the focus of an urgent meeting attended by senior police officials and commanders from all 88 metropolitan police stations. Discussions centered on enhancing police conduct and refining operational protocols to prevent similar occurrences.
Pol Lt Gen Siam stressed the importance of strict adherence to legal procedures and professional standards during law enforcement operations. Supervising officers were instructed to closely monitor their teams and would be held accountable for future misconduct, including facing reassignment if necessary. He also stressed the need for effective communication during public interactions to prevent conflicts and uphold the police force’s reputation.
The meeting also tackled persistent issues related to three-wheeled vehicles, such as illegal parking, overcharging, and misleading passengers. Plans to collaborate with transportation authorities and the Tourist Police Division were discussed to develop sustainable solutions and ensure the safety and satisfaction of residents and visitors.
