BANGKOK, 16 May 2013 — Authorities at the Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD) say they are working around the clock to find the mastermind behind the attack of the Prime Minister’s Office website, with the primary suspect remaining Mr. Narongrit Suksarn.
The TCSD however said it still could not reach the suspect for more investigation, as Mr. Narongrit has fallen ill. Authorities believed the suspected hacker would not try to escape because his illness appeared to be genuine. The TCSD also stated its officials are gathering more evidence on the case and reexamining the website thoroughly for more clues to the attack.
The TCSD claimed that initially it had found the main IP address used in the hacking, but its location is well masked. The TCSD vowed to find the user of the IP address, adding if all evidence points at Mr. Narongrit, the TCSD will conclude the case and summon him to acknowledge the charge.
Nonetheless, the TCSD has targeted 2 more suspects belonging to the Unlimited Hacker Team (UHT), while expressing concerns that the duo were trying to delete their tracks of information online before the officials reach their computer sets for inspection. The TCSD is seeking a warrant to search the suspects’ house expected in the next 2 days.
The UHT reportedly provides education on hacking, which is considered legal currently. However, if students use the knowledge gained from the UHT to commit crime, both the students and educators are subject to punishment by law.
