Police tighten security in wake of Indonesia terror attack

SONGKHLA – The Provincial Police Region 9 has ordered security to be tightened in the southern region, adding 150 policemen to be stationed in Hat Yai District in wake of the terror attack in Jakarta.

The Provincial Police Region 9 Commissioner Pol Lt Gen Weerapong Chuenpakdee has said that the police are tightening security to counter any potential terror threats to the area, after Indonesia suffered a terrorist attack in Jakarta on 14 January, with casualties reported.

He said the incident in Jakarta is considered an outrage which has stirred widespread chaos and disorder.

Authorities will be placing more road checkpoints, increase security protection at government offices and public places with a constant monitoring of the situation, and has intensified operations of their intelligence unit.

More security officers are now being stationed with 32 checkpoints and blockage points assembled to prevent any potential incidents in Hat Yai District, which is a major economic city in the southern region, with patrols in all areas as part of the enhanced security measures.
