BANGKOK, 2 September 2011 – Deputy National Police Chief Police General Prewpan Dhamapong has pledged to continue a fight on narcotic drug suppression while expressing his appreciation for the trust that his superiors have given him and made him one of the candidates for the post of national police chief.
Police General Prewpan told the press that he will focus on sealing the northwestern border straddling between Myanmar and the Thai northern provinces of Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Mae Hong Son, to prevent infiltration of narcotic drugs from the neighbouring country.
Apart from preventing drug spread, the deputy national police chief elaborated that the police force will raid target communities, rehabilitate drug abusers and enforce the anti-money laundering law against drug dealers to accomplish the said mission.
Police General Prewpan then warned drug dealers to stop their illegal activities or they will face strong suppression drive. He said he also has a name list of all police officers involved with drug trafficking and asked them to cease their activities immediately.
The deputy national police chief voiced his confidence that concrete results of the narcotic suppression mission will be seen within the next three months. He also promised that no extra-judicial killings will be made.
Police General Prewpan however refused to comment on the transfer of the national police chief to prevent further conflicts, but he thanked those supporting him to sit in the post. He said he is ready to solve all problems including narcotic drugs, which he has been working on.
