BANGKOK, 20 November 2013 Bangkok police are preparing measures to thwart sabotage attempts at rally sites in Bangkok. Meanwhile the government has set up a war room to monitor the protest situation.
Labor Minister Chaloem Yubamrung revealed on Tuesday that Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has assigned him to set up the war room at the Ministry of Labor, to host meetings between the prime minister, the police, the National Security Council and related agencies. Those at the meeting will discuss the situation of rallies around the country.
Police Captain Chaloem also disclosed that latest reports indicated that a large number of people were being brought in to support the Bangkok protest and there were plans to seize provincial city halls. Thus, officials would step up precautionary measures, especially concerning weapon search.
Police Major General Adul Narongsak, deputy commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, asserted that intelligence pointed to possible attempts to sabotage protest sites in Bangkok, with the aim of inciting violence during rallies. Members of the public should refrain from entering the rally sites, for their own safety.
