Police warn of scams using NCPO name

BANGKOK, 7 August 2014  – The Royal Thai Police has recently received reports of scammers using the National Council for Peace and Order’s name to camouflage their attempts to steal money.

Police said members of the public have been exposed to scams which involve the use of the administration’s name to demand money or to claim benefits. The scam is considered a severe fraud whose penalties include a jail sentence.

The Royal Thai Police assured the public that the NCPO’s operation is transparent and free of corruption and urged them not to fall for the scheme.

Police are offering a reward worth 100,000 baht for information which can lead to their arrest of scammers. Members of the public can contact the 191 and 1599 police hotlines around the clock to provide information.
