BANGKOK, 12 June 2015 – The latest poll conducted by a committee under the National Reform Council has found that the public would like to see peace in the country the most and that they want the next prime minister to enter office via a general election.
Chairman of the NRC’s special committee on public participation Pracha Taerat on Thursday chaired a news conference on the result of a survey on public opinions which has been completed through cooperation with 40 Rajabhat universities.
Based on 26,708 respondents from around the country, most of them agreed that the new charter’s focus on restoring peace is the most important aspect of all while 55% of them said that an election should be declared as the people’s rights and over 44% said it should be made a duty.
In addition, more than 77% stated that a prime minister must be an elected member of parliament but some 22% see otherwise.
Over 82% of the respondents believe Thailand should have a new council tasked with driving forward the national reform process and a new committee in charge of national strategies in order to help continue the reform efforts.
