BANGKOK, 15 February 2013 The Department of Pollution Control is keeping a close eye on the haze problem in the northern region although the situation has already improved in some areas.
Director-General of the Pollution Control Department Wichien Jungrungruang revealed on Thursday that the department’s monitoring of the haze problem in Thailand’s North since January 27 found that the overall situation has somewhat eased, including Lampang, where dust particle exceeded the acceptable level on February 10.
Mr. Wichien stated that officials still have to keep a close eye on 4 provinces; namely, Lampang, Phrae, Lamphun and Chiang Rai.
He said that the Pollution Control Department has collaborated with the Provincial Police Region 4, related provincial governors and local state offices to implement a set of measures to solve the haze problem, which include the campaign to dissuade locals from all burning activities.
The Pollution Control Department head added that residents of the North and concerned individuals can follow the state efforts in tackling the haze problems and get the latest update on the air quality from the department’s website and via the smartphone application “Air4 Thai” around the clock.
