VIENTIANE – Chinese Premier Li Qiang has expressed China’s readiness to work with Thailand in using the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic relations in 2025 as an opportunity to strengthen their longstanding friendship, enhance strategic communication, and promote collaboration in various sectors. The goal is to further develop the China-Thailand community with a shared future.
According to Xinhua News Agency, Premier Li made these remarks during a meeting with Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra on the sidelines of the East Asia Cooperation Summit in Vientiane, Laos, on October 10. Li highlighted that the concept of “China and Thailand are one family” has gained widespread popularity, emphasizing the close ties between the two neighboring countries connected by mountains and rivers. Under the strategic guidance of both nations’ leaders, the development of the China-Thailand community with a shared future continues to progress, with numerous areas of cooperation and warm exchanges between their peoples.
Li expressed optimism that the relationship between China and Thailand will deepen further, bringing more benefits to the people of both countries. China supports Thailand in finding development paths suitable to its national conditions and is committed to being a reliable partner. China is prepared to enhance development strategies, actively communicate policies, and accelerate the construction of the China-Thailand railway. Furthermore, China aims to promote industrial integration and development, particularly in digital economy zones, new energy vehicles, and solar energy, supporting Thailand’s economic transition and growth.
Li also called for joint efforts to organize events celebrating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2025 and to strengthen exchanges in media, culture, tourism, education, and youth, fostering public support for the two countries’ friendship.
Additionally, Li stressed the importance of working together to implement the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), advancing regional economic integration, enhancing multilateral cooperation, and jointly maintaining peace and stability in the region.
Prime Minister Paetongtarn congratulated China on the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and expressed confidence that under the leadership of President Xi Jinping, China will continue to grow stronger and contribute to global peace and prosperity. Thailand is keen to collaborate with China to organize celebratory events for the 50th diplomatic anniversary in 2025. Paetongtarn also emphasized strengthening high-level exchanges and mutually beneficial cooperation in areas such as economy, trade, agriculture, and culture, as well as working together to combat transnational crimes like online gambling and phone scams.
Moreover, Paetongtarn reaffirmed Thailand’s commitment to enhancing communication and coordination with China within ASEAN, the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation framework, and other multilateral platforms. She emphasized the importance of promoting trade and investment liberalization and protecting regional peace, stability, and prosperity. (PRD)
