The Ministry of Commerce has been informed by Thai President Foods PCL that it will not increase the price of its instant noodles.
Adviser to the Commerce Minister Manlika Boonmeetrakul Mahasuk said that the manufacturer has informed the ministry that it would use a cost management strategy to deal with the rising expenses of its instant noodles ingredients. The pricing of its instant noodles under the “Mama” brand in bag form would remain unchanged, starting at 5-6 baht per bag at retail.
The manufacturer stated that it is dedicated to assisting people in alleviating financial burdens, but askes authorities to assist in containing costs on variables that they cannot control, such as BOPP film used for packaging or the potential implementation of the salt tax.
The advisor added that Commerce Minister Jurin Laksanawisit has instructed the Department of Internal Trade to negotiate with manufacturers who produce necessities to retain their price cap to reduce the burden of the people in the country. (NNT)
