BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister Paethongtarn Shinawatra officially opened the “Amazing Thailand Diwali Festival Bangkok 2024” at the main stage by the Ong Ang Canal in Bangkok, October 29. She was joined by former Prime Minister Mr. Srettha Thavisin, Minister of Tourism and Sports Sorawong Thienthong, Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt, Indian Ambassador to Thailand H.E. Mr. Nagesh Singh, the President of the Thai-Indian Association, the Chairman of the India-Thailand Chamber of Commerce, and many members of the Thai-Indian community.

The event was reported by Ms. Natthariya Thaveewong, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, who stated that the festival aims to strengthen diplomatic and trade relations between Thailand and India through cultural events that support local entrepreneurs. The initiative also aligns with the upcoming Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism & Sport Year in 2025, aimed at generating jobs and boosting the economy for sustainable national development.



During the festival, Prime Minister Paethongtarn enjoyed a special cultural performance from India and expressed her joy at participating in this third edition of the Diwali festival. She highlighted the warmth and hospitality of all attendees and noted that the festival signifies the dispelling of darkness with its vibrant lights.

The Diwali festival highlights the beautiful bond between Thailand and India, celebrating 77 years of friendship.

“The Diwali festival is a time for Thai-Indian families to celebrate together in happiness. This celebration in Thailand confirms our long-standing 77-year relationship with India and reinforces the image of Thailand as a diverse nation where different cultures coexist harmoniously,” the Prime Minister stated.

She further expressed her hope that Diwali would continue to flourish in Thailand annually, growing in strength and interest. The Prime Minister emphasized the potential of cultural values as a form of Soft Power that can elevate the quality of life and income, creating charm in the city and increasing love for the Indian community in Thailand.

In her stylish pink-green saree, Prime Minister Paethongtarn also paid homage to Hindu deities such as Ganesha, Lakshmi, Rama, and Sita by offering floral garlands and performing fire rituals for blessings, lighting candles alongside government officials.

The government invites Thai citizens and international visitors to join the “Amazing Thailand Diwali Festival Bangkok 2024,” taking place from October 28 to November 3, along the Ong Ang Canal in the “Little India” area. Attendees can celebrate the largest Indian heritage event, pay respects to Ganesha and Lakshmi, enjoy performances of traditional Indian arts, experience dazzling Bollywood-style light and sound shows, and savor a variety of Indian cuisines and goods, along with many other exciting activities throughout the festival.
