Bangkok – The Prime Minister has asserted that the issue of intellectual property infringement must be dealt with efficiently to ensure confidence in the nation.
Prime Minister Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha, chairing the first meeting of the National Intellectual Property Commission for 2016, acknowledged that the issue of intellectual property infringement has long been a problem for Thailand. He pointed out that the country has been unable to effectively tackle the matter due to a lack of personnel and poor integration between relevant agencies as well as a lack of knowledge among authorities. He stated that he has discussed the issue with his ministers and relevant bodies and tasked with them drafting a clear plan so for more efficient action. Gen Prayuth said addressing intellectual property is important to ensuring international confidence in Thailand.
On the matter of personnel shortages across all state offices, the premier called for each body to adjust its structure as the government does not have the budget to acquire the needed amount of workers. He said if requests continue, he will have the Office of the Civil Service Commission restructure each ministry and the entire civil sector.
