BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra addressed the controversy surrounding her decision to play with her children at the Government House grounds while the public was protesting and demanding solutions to the blackchin tilapia fish problem, on March 19.

Paetongtarn explained that the incident where she was seen running and playing with her children on the grass near the Thai Khu Fah building, the official residence of the Prime Minister, should not be seen as neglecting public concerns. “People are multidimensional, and just because I am spending time with my children doesn’t mean I am not addressing important matters,” she said. “Work is always on my mind, and I have already instructed the Fisheries Department to take action on the blackchin tilapia problem.”

The Prime Minister emphasized that she always makes time to be with her children when possible, but this does not interfere with her work. “Whenever my schedule is free, I spend time with my children. However, when I am busy with my duties, I do not have time to be with them, just like any working parent. It’s important to understand that everyone has their responsibilities.”

She further explained that human life involves balancing various aspects, and managing time effectively is key to maintaining health and happiness, both for individuals and their families. She also reassured the public that, despite her busy schedule, work remains at the forefront of her mind.

When asked how she felt about the constant controversies surrounding her actions, the Prime Minister smiled and responded, “I feel normal. If there were no controversies, I might miss them.” She added, “Thank you very much.”

Regarding how the government is addressing the blackchin tilapia issue and other public concerns, Paetongtarn emphasized that the government is committed to tackling every problem, regardless of location or urgency. “We will address urgent issues immediately, and for matters that require more clarity, we will wait to ensure they are resolved safely and properly,” she stated. “Every problem is important, and we deal with them based on what needs attention the most, such as issues involving public safety, which take priority.”

She also reassured the public that the government’s actions, such as plans to combat air pollution, are already underway, even if they may not always be highly visible in the media. “Rest assured that every ministry is working hard to resolve the issues that affect the nation,” she concluded.
