Prime Minister Phaethongtarn Shinawatra responds with a smile and a question to reporters about the Alpine Golf Course land issue, amid ongoing media speculation.

BANGKOK, Thailand – At the Military Airport 2, Wing 6 (Don Muang), Bangkok, during her departure to visit southern border provinces on January 16, Ms. Phaethongtarn Shinawatra, the Prime Minister, was asked by reporters about the recurring issue of the Alpine Golf Course land. Specifically, they questioned why the matter was being raised again, despite the Prime Minister having previously addressed part of the issue.

With a smile, the Prime Minister responded by asking, “Did you notice?”

Previously, there had been reports that former Deputy Minister of the Interior, Chada Thaiseth, had signed a document to revoke ownership of the Alpine Golf Course land, returning it to sacred land as per the court ruling and the legal opinion of the Council of State. This move was expected before Chada’s term ended in September 2024.

However, on January 15, Land Department Director-General, Pornpot Penpat, revealed that Chada had not signed any such revocation, as the authority over this matter lies with Chamnanwit Terath, the Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior, who oversees the Land Department. The reports, therefore, were speculated to be based on policies Chada had merely suggested.
