Prime Minister strengthens Thailand-China ties with landmark agreements

Thailand and China mark 50 years of diplomatic relations with 14 new agreements, boosting trade, technology, and investment cooperation.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra has concluded her official visit to China, securing a series of agreements to strengthen trade, investment, and technological collaboration. The visit, marking 50 years of diplomatic ties between Thailand and China, deepened economic cooperation and strategic partnerships between the two nations.


The trip resulted in 14 agreements spanning trade facilitation, digital economy, space exploration, and energy investment. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to removing trade barriers and streamlining customs procedures to enhance supply chain efficiency. Discussions also focused on artificial intelligence, sustainable development, and green energy projects.

During meetings with President Xi Jinping, National People’s Congress Chairman Zhao Leji, and Premier Li Qiang, Thailand secured assurances of expanded Chinese support in key sectors. Talks centered on increasing investment in high-tech industries, strengthening trade routes, and enhancing security cooperation. China also acknowledged Thailand’s role in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) and the Thailand-Laos-China trade network.


The Thai delegates engaged with leading Chinese firms such as Hisense and Xiaomi. Hisense is considering establishing a manufacturing hub in Thailand, while Xiaomi plans to build its first overseas electric vehicle production facility in the country, reinforcing Thailand’s status as a growing center for electric mobility in Southeast Asia.

The visit also advanced cultural and educational cooperation, with discussions on the temporary enshrinement of the Buddha’s Tooth Relic in Thailand and future scholarship programs. (NNT)
