Prime Minister Paetongtarn rides the MRT to celebrate Chinese New Year in Yaowarat, promoting free public transport to reduce PM2.5 pollution and urging more MRT services for citizens.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra took the MRT from Sanam Chai Station to Hua Lamphong Station to attend the annual Chinese New Year event in Yaowarat (Chinatown) on January 29.

The visit was part of his initiative to promote the government’s free public transport measures, encouraging citizens to use public services to reduce car usage amid the ongoing PM2.5 dust crisis. The Prime Minister noted that the number of MRT passengers has been significant and urged Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister, Suriya Jungrungreangkit, to ensure sufficient MRT trains for better service.



He also emphasized that the government is prioritizing the air quality issue and will continue implementing measures to allow citizens to return to normal life as soon as possible.

Throughout his journey, the Prime Minister received greetings and requests for photos from citizens, including one elderly woman who expressed her joy at meeting him in person and asked him to send her regards to his father, former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, while praying for his return.
