Prime Minister: Thailand handles Rohingya issue with UN standard

BANGKOK, 21 May 2015 – The Prime Minister has affirmed that Thailand is complying with the United Nations’ principles regarding its actions to the Rohingya refugees.

Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has said during a speech about the 2016 budget allocation, regarding the solution for the Rohingya refugees, that the nation’s management on the matter is in line with the principles drawn by the United Nations’.

He has insisted that Thailand will not set up any more refugee camps. Refugee camps have already been established in border areas while the government has been providing care and educational services. He affirmed that all decisions have not breached international procedures.

The PM has requested the media to help present factual information regarding the government’s solution to the matter, and asked the Thai public to refrain from actions that would escalate the border area disputes.

He also addressed that Thailand is willing to cooperate with the international community in all aspects, to facilitate a cooperative environment in the border areas, while the ASEAN Community will not interfere with individual political matters in member countries
