BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra launched Thailand’s 2025 Songkran campaign on April 8 at Government House, inviting Thai citizens and international tourists to join nationwide celebrations of the country’s traditional New Year. Under the theme “Once in a Lifetime: Experience Songkran in Thailand,” the campaign promotes the cultural richness of Songkran while promoting it as a global tourism event.

The festival will be held in a number of provinces and across Bangkok, with events tailored to represent the unique cultural identity of each region. The campaign is structured around four main aspects: cultural preservation, economic support for communities, social inclusion across generations, and environmentally responsible celebrations. Activities will include traditional water-pouring rituals, demonstrations of Thai-scented water and powder ball making, and cultural performances by children.

During the launch ceremony, the prime minister bathed a Buddha statue as part of a traditional blessing and voiced support for Songkran as both a celebration of Thai heritage and a means to attract global visitors. Government agencies such as the Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Tourism and Sports, and Ministry of Public Health are coordinating efforts to ensure the festivities are safe, authentic, and welcoming.

The event also paid tribute to National Elderly Day, with the prime minister wearing a Lamduan flower brooch to symbolize respect for senior citizens. The Lamduan flower, known for its long life and fragrance, was chosen to portray the strength, wisdom, and enduring contributions of the elderly to Thai society.

Traditional water-pouring ceremonies and cultural performances by children will highlight the festive spirit of Songkran across provinces and Bangkok.

Songkran 2025 emphasizes cultural preservation, community-driven economies, cross-generational inclusion, and environmentally conscious celebrations.
