BANGKOK, 30 January 2015 – Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn yesterday afternoon inaugurated a sporting playground at Klongchan Housing Community in Bangkapi District, Bangkok.

The field was built by the Office of His Majesty’s Principal Private Secretary in cooperation with several public and private sector units, in response to His Majesty the King’s advice to use sporting playgrounds as a medium to promote physical and mental health of people in communities as well as their friendly relationship. It also provides a multi-purpose space for community members to organize recreational activities beneficial to the development of their quality of life.

The playground has been named as Lankila Phat (ลานกีฬาพัฒน์), literally meaning a sporting field for growth. Another playground of the same kind is being built at a space under the Urupong expressway to benefit Baan Khrua and Som Poy communities. The first Lankila Phat in Klongchan comprises a children’s playground, fields for both indoor and outdoor sports such as basketball, badminton, table tennis, petong and folk games. The ground also includes health park and herbal gardens.
