BANGKOK, 20 March 2015 – The Ministry of Justice has transferred 33 prison officials after military officers carried out inspections in 143 prisons throughout the country without prior notice.
According to the ministry’s Department of Corrections, narcotics and mobile phones were found during the surprise inspections.
Songkhla Central Prison head Suchin Damkaden has been transferred to be an inspector at the Department of Corrections, while the remaining 32 wardens have been moved to different prisons.
The transfers were approved by the department on Wednesday and took immediate effect.
The department said many inmates tested positive for drug use.
