Privy Council Chief opens 22nd exchange program for southern teens

BANGKOK, 16 October 2014  Privy Council President General Prem Tinsulanonda has presided over the opening ceremony of the 22nd Sai-jai-Thai-Su-jai-Tai which gives youths in the Deep South a chance to stay with a host family in the central region for 15 days.

General Prem and his entourage which includes Army Commander-in-Chief and Deputy Defense Minister General Udomdej Sitabutr and Deputy Supreme Commander General Paiboon Kumchaya, attended the ceremony at Thewet Royal Thai Army Club.

During his speech, General Prem said he has always raised the importance of Thai culture and fair treatment since the program began two decades ago. He said Thailand belongs to everyone and they should try their best in keeping it together.

He has also encouraged the host families to instill in these teens good values. There are altogether 240 of them who are Muslims and are from the five southernmost provinces joining the program. He hopes that they will bring peace to the Deep South.
